After 10 years and nearly 200 Lots of wine, we're finally ready to release Lot... 10? Yes, there IS a story here.

When Kevin Mehra (CEO, Founder) initially went to release Lot 10 back in 2010, there was a slight hiccup. Kevin had a deal with a wine producer in South Africa to purchase a wine that was slated to become Lot 10. But the deal fell through at the last minute, and by that time, Kevin had already moved on to Lot 15 or 16. So he decided not to backtrack. Until now, that Lot number has remained vacant - the only unused Lot in the past ten years. But, for 90+ Cellars' 10th Anniversary, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to finally release Lot 10. And trust us, you will not want to miss this wine!

In the past 10 years we've released many great wines form Napa Valley's prestigious appellations - Rutherford, Oakville, St. Helena, Spring Mountain District. But, this is the first wine we've ever released from, arguably, what's considered to be Napa's most iconic AVA: Stags Leap District.

The 1973 Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon vaulted the Stags Leap District to the top of the world's great places for Cabernet Sauvignon by winning the Paris Tasting of 1976. In a blind tasting that included the best of Bordeaux's First Growths, it received the best score by a panel of esteemed French judges.

Stags Leap District is the first of Napa Valley's AVAs and probably the one most defined by place rather than a political boundary. Sitting east of Yountville and perched upon an outcrop of higher ground at the base of Atlas Peak, Stags Leap receives much of the cool winds and fog from the San Pablo Bay, but also most of the warm afternoon sunshine of the setting sun. This interplay of cool mornings and warm sunny afternoons creates ideal conditions for ripening Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines of this region generally display intensely fresh red cherry and blackberry aromas, especially when planted in the mix of volcanic and sedimentary soils on low yielding vines of sloping vineyards.

This particular wine comes from one of the most elite vineyards in Stags Leap. It is harvested by hand, sorted, de-stemmed, crushed and fermented. The temperature is allowed to rise during fermentation which extracts color and soft tannins, and then the must is chilled to avoid the extraction of bitter phenolics as the alcohol rises. The wine is racked into new French Oak after fermentation. Malolactic occurs in barrel. After 12-18 months the finished wine is bottled.

Deep ruby in color with a delicate fragrance of black currants, plums, violets and a mild toast. Full-bodied but balanced, the wine's ripe fruit and robust alcohol are balanced by bright acidity and silky tannins.
